Eat habits pre-Italy:
I have always had an interesting relationship with food. Whether it was never eating like in high school or gorging myself in the caf in college, I have often found balance to be a problem, although not always which is strange. I guess that time is often a reason that I eat less, like when I was in high school and had no time to eat. On the opposite side of the spectrum, now that I have food readily available I just eat for taste, not necessarily hunger reasons. On top of that, I feel that my addictive personality causes me to eat things that taste good in ridiculous amounts, with no regard for the possible effects of that consumption. College totally messed with my eating, however I seem to always find a rhythm eventually, after I have noticed my bad habits. Then there is the whole issue of whether I am in soccer season or not and if I have been working out my normal amount or not.

Eating Habits thus far in Italy:
Since being in Italy, I think I have been eating on the more than necessary side mainly because I am only here so long, everything is delicious, and I walk a lot around the city so I don't see the increase in weight like I thought I might. That being said, I am still trying to be moderate and keep myself in check because like I said I have an addictive personality. Nutella is my kryptonite for sure. It's not that I didn't eat it at home but here it is so common I can't help it. I eat the stuff with a spoon for goodness sake. I cook more here, which is good because I had been meaning to learn lately. I can't wait to branch out of my pasta/meatloaf/chicken/eggs methods. When we go out to eat my eating habits are much better because the portion sizes here are perfect sizes, although there are like 4 courses. Also, I don't think I have had something I disliked. Nothing. Everything is amazing.

Do as the Italians:
Italians ear very big on courses. I have also noticed that prosciutto platters are big here, which I don't mind at all. I love the way Italians eat and what they eat. I plan on writing more about this after I have another dinner with my Italian family. I have noticed that Italians are very polite and friendly in the way they eat whether it is buying a coffee for a friend when you run into them, serving others before they serve themselves, always asking whether you would like more, or just not putting their elbows on the table. It is seriously refreshing to see.
